On a lake where most of the shoreline runs to shingled traditionalists, this house makes a different choice. Beckwith Builders designed and built entirely in house, drawing the roofline low and sweeping it outward, stacking the living spaces down toward the water in a series of terraced volumes.

Lake Winnipesaukee has a vernacular and this house ignores it. Because Beckwith operates as a fully integrated design and build team, every decision from roofline to material selection to how the stairs meet the water was resolved by one group of people. It shows.

Winnipesaukee is New Hampshire's largest lake, 72 square miles with 274 islands and a shoreline that gets harder to build well on every decade. The terraced levels mean you are always oriented toward the water, always aware of how the light is moving across it. At dusk, when the lake flattens and the reflection doubles the building, the roofline makes complete sense in a way it might not have on paper.
