Built in the woods above Sunday River, the A frame is one of those buildings that needs winter to make its case. Snow isolates the form and the bare trees let the triangle read against the sky cleanly. You understand the geometry from the outside before you ever go in.

The Interior
Blonde wood runs everything inside. The ceiling, the structural members, the cabinetry, the loft rail. In winter light it picks up a warmth that the grain holds longer than you would expect, catching whatever comes through the glass and keeping it. The roofline compresses the space as it rises toward the peak and the pendant lights over the island pull the eye back down. There is a lot happening in a small footprint and none of it fights.

The Kitchen
The island is long enough to feel generous and simple enough not to compete with what is above it. The forest sits in the windows behind the range and keeps the space from ever turning inward. You are always aware of the trees.
