Little Mark Island doesn't have a road in. You get there by boat, which tells you something about the kind of shoot it is. The entire island is a single private estate with a main house, guest cottage, and docks built by Beckwith Builders and shaped around the trees that have been there far longer than any structure.

We shot it during peak fall color, which on Lake Winnipesaukee means a narrow window and no second chances. The white clapboard, dark shutters, and stone chimneys were made for that backdrop. The contrast between the architecture and the canopy is the kind of thing you don't manufacture. You just have to be there when it happens.

Getting all of it meant drone work, shooting from the water at lake level, and ground based architectural coverage, sometimes within the same hour as the light shifted. These are some of the strongest images I've made on the lake.
